What does ISO 400 mean
ISO is the sensitivity to light as pertains to either film or a digital sensor.
A lower ISO number means less sensitivity and a higher ISO number means more sensitivity.
Film has a single ISO rating, meaning that if you put a roll of ISO 400 film in a camera, you will be shooting at ISO 400 for the entire roll..
Can you shoot 400 ISO at night
I shoot night photography regularly with ISO 400 film. In a brightly lit street you can shoot at f2 and 1/60 and that’s perfectly manageable handheld. Going down to 1/30 or less is also quite easy as long as you’re careful. Check out the Exposure Value Chart and the Exposure Factor Relationship Chart.
Is a higher ISO better
High ISO. Choosing a higher ISO setting is best when the light is low or you are not able to make a long exposure. Higher ISO setting means your camera’s sensor is more responsive to light, so it needs less light to reach the sensor to create a well-exposed photograph.
What is the fastest film speed
F-speedThe film typically used for the intraoral bitewing exam falls into three film speed classes – D (slowest), E and F-speed (fastest). Like photographic film, the faster the film, the less exposure it needs. Film speed can be an important aspect in determining the amount of radiation exposure received by a patient.

What is the difference between ISO 200 and 400
ISO 400 is twice as sensitive as ISO 200 and just as with shutter speed and aperture, when we double the light to the sensor, we refer to this as one ‘stop’ of light. ISO 400 is one stop brighter than ISO 200 and that means it would take half as much time to record the same amount of light at the sensor.

The numbers are relative, as in 200 requires more light than 400, which requires more light than 800. When you double the speed of film, you half the amount of light that is needed for a proper exposure. And when you half the speed of your film, you double the amount of light that is needed for a proper exposure.
What should my ISO be set at
The “normal” range of camera ISO is about 200 to 1600. With today’s digital cameras you can sometimes go as low as 50 or as high as over three million, depending upon the camera model. The number chosen has two important qualities associated with it. First, it sets the amount of light needed for a good exposure.

Because it is a larger film, this means each roll contains only 16 shots instead of the 36 shots on a 35mm film. You know what that means – yep, it’s way more expensive to shoot 120mm. You have to purchase more rolls to shoot the same amount of frames.
What film is best for night photography
I strongly recommend Ilford films. I use Ilford HP5 most of the time as it has very little grain (if you expose it correctly). The second film that I recommend is Kodak Tri-X; this is a legendary film. A little too grainy for my taste, but a great film nevertheless.
What is the best shutter speed to use
In general, the guideline is that the minimum handheld shutter speed is the reciprocal of the focal length of the lens. So, if you’re using a 100mm lens (and remember to account for crop factor) then the slowest shutter speed you should try and use is 1/100th of a second. For a 40mm lens, it’s 1/40th of a second.
